For this part of the assignment I chose a part of the Institute that is not usually used as an exhibiting space for the end of year exhibition.
The photography studio is found at the end of this corridor and I think it would be interesting to see this corridor transformed by the Photography students to showcase their works. They could link the corridor with the studio itself and create one holistic environment.
The space itself is quite narrow and the ceiling is of average height, however, these dimensions could be used in favour of the students as to create a more warm and welcoming space. When it comes to lightning there are three small windows from which natural light comes in and also there are a couple of bulbs spread throughout the corridor to add more light to the space. If the space had to be transformed in an exhibition space however, additional lightning would help make it look more professional. The floor surface is made out of yellowish tiles which aren't that visually appealing but one could find ways and means to cover them up.
At the moment the function of the space is just that of a corridor as it is designed to link the classrooms to the rest of the school but it could be easily transformed into an exhibiting space. The stairs which leads to the first floor could also be used to link the ground floor to the first floor since it isn't usually used as an exhibiting space, thus the photography students exhibition space could begin from the stairs, continue through the corridor which finally leads to the photography studio.
Below are some ideas of how the space could be transformed into a photography exhibition.
